October marks the beginning of the busy holiday season and family time for most of us. The fun started off with the kids’ fall break in early October, and next in line is the Halloween season!
Let’s forget for a minute that many stores are already decked with Christmas ornaments and enjoy what’s around us this Halloween month. Here’s what we have gathered so far…
Smith Family Farm's Pumpkin Harvest, Open until October 31, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 4430 Sellers Avenue, Brentwood
Halloween is not complete without a stop at Smith Family Farm’s Pumpkin Harvest! Activities include a hayride to the pumpkin patch where the whole family can pick their own pumpkin to take home, live interactive music performances, educational displays, a corn maze, a replica Miwok Indian village, a barnyard animal area, a country store, and a picnic area.
Open to the public 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. everyday. Admission is $9 on weekdays and $10 of weekends. Please note that they only accept cash and check payments. Group reservations are available Monday through Friday.
Brentwood Pumpkin Fest, Open until October 31. Technology Court, Brentwood, behind Autozone and Jack In The Box. Open on Fridays 4-10pm, Saturdays 10am-10pm, Sundays 10am-9pm.
Aside from pumpkins, the Brentwood Pumpkin Fest offers 3 different haunted houses for all age groups, a petting zoo, bounce houses, rock wall, trikes, glitter tattoos, fabulous feet dance performers, and lots of other fun activities for the whole family!

City of Brentwood’s 3rd Annual Scarecrows in the Park, Scarecrows will be displayed in the City Park beginning October 17. Brentwood City Park, 710 Second Street in Downtown Brentwood
Design and build your own scarecrow! Sign up with the Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department. Registration deadline: 5 pm, Friday, October 10. Ribbons awarded in two categories: Non-Professional or Design Professional. Stop by the Parks and Recreation Department to pick up your registration form or download from www.brentwoodca.gov. Fee is $15 per scarecrow, Class #14612. Check out the event flyer here.
Harvest Festival in Oakley, October 18 (Saturday), 12:00-4:00 p.m. Oakley Civic Center Plaza
Come enjoy the Annual Harvest Festival in Oakley with activities for the whole family, including a costume parade around a park, a special costume parade for canine friends and various activities for kids. More information here: Oakley’s Recreation Guide for Fall/Winter 2014
Halloween Bingo, October 24 (Friday), 6-9pm. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Brentwood Senior Activity Center, 193 Griffith Lane, Brentwood $20 Senior Club Members, $25 Non-Members; Bingo and Costume Contest #14539
Bingo and costume contest! Come in costume or not! Price includes Joanne’s famous Hobo stew, bread, and dessert, one 6-face/10-game bingo packet and dauber. Brentwood Hometown Halloween, October 25 (Saturday), 5:00-7:30 p.m. First and Oak Streets, Downtown Brentwood
Trick or Treat in Downtown Brentwood on First and Oak Streets from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. Merchants can set up a booth at the event. Sponsored by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce and Sutter Delta Medical Center.

Halloween Spooktacular and Pet Adoption, October 26 (Sunday), 11:00-2:00 p.m. Streets of Brentwood, 2565 Sand Creek Road, Brentwood.
The Contra Costa Humane Society and The Streets of Brentwood present Spooktacular & Pet Adoption Day! Trick or treat at participating retail stores. Participate in a variety of activities like family and pet costume contest, Tumble Time bus, visit animal rescue group booths and find your next furry friend, blood donation drive, etc. Nominal fees apply for the contests and Tumble Time bus. Annual All Saints & Angels Carnival, October 31 (Friday), Time TBD. Immaculate Heart of Mary church, 500 Fairview Avenue, Brentwood
IHM’s Annual All Saints and Angels Carnival is on this October 31st in the early evening. This is a free event with carnival games, prizes, and more! This is a safe and family friendly night for IHM parishioners. No scary or demonic costumes, please. We are still confirming the event time, but last year it was from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
Circus Night, October 31 (Friday), 6:00-9:00 p.m. Harvest Time Assembly of God, 2200 Ventura Drive, Brentwood
The Harvest Time Assembly of God is having their Circus Night on October 31 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Have a fun and safe Halloween night with jumpy houses, hay rides, rock climbing, games, prizes, and bikes given away every 30 minutes. They offer for $1 the following meal: hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, lemonade. This annual free admission event is always fun and enjoyable for kids!
