New shops, new restaurants, lots of development and re-development all over town. It's high time we have an update on what's new and what's up ahead in Brentwood and the surrounding areas. We recently met with Alex Greenwood, Planning and Economic Development Manager, and he shared with us some of the new and upcoming restaurants and shops in the city. We have also talked to some of the business owners, and we are excited to support all these new businesses in town!

New Restaurants to Try Now...
There are several new restaurants in the area that opened in the past year that are well-worth trying out! If you haven't yet, now is the time!
The Wishing Crab at the Streets of Brentwood opened in August 2011 and has already established some great following. The first of its kind in Brentwood, it features seafood and other meats and vegetable dishes served in a hotpot or steamed-cook style. It's a great place for a relaxed family meal together or one shared with friends. The Fire Grill Steampot was "abundant and the taste was great" according to one of our readers.
Mel's Diner and BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse also opened in 2011 at the Streets of Brentwood. Also on Sand Creek Road – The Beach Hut Deli opened in July 2011 and Menchie's Yogurt in November 2011. Both restaurants are located at Sand Creek Crossing. And for those who do not know, Cafe Asia, located in the same area on Sand Creek Road, is formerly known as Hi-Bar Restaurant.
New restaurant openings along Lone Tree Way include Chipotle and Orale Orale. Big Wave Dave's Mongolian Barbeque, along Balfour Road, is also now open!
We are excited to announce that Heavenly Cheesecakes and More is opening soon! The collaboration between best friends Shellie Hirsch and Maria Martinek makes Heavenly Cheesecakes and More as heavenly as cheesecakes can get. Located at the Shops at Fairview on Balfour Road and Fairview Avenue, it is definitely a place worth checking out, and coming back to again and again.
Other restaurants we can't wait to try: Five Guys along Lone Tree Way, Sunshine Donuts along Brentwood Boulevard, Prego Pizzeria along Balfour Road, Buffalo Wild Wings along Lone Tree Way, and Lumpy's Diner Express at Sunset Plaza. These will definitely be a great addition to our growing list of restaurant options in the area! Be sure to share with us your good experience by sending us a restaurant recommendation.
Fresh and Easy is now open! Mandouh Attia, the Brentwood Store Manager, shared with us that they take pride in the quality of the products they offer at reasonable prices. And here's an alternative to fast food for those always on the go - buy one of their prepared foods and heat it up using the microwave station inside the store.
We also have some great additions in the Brentwood Downtown shopping scene, including MADE: A Make-Up Boutique and Sunflower Antiques and Collectibles. Both shops are located along Oak Street, where Little Miss Everything is also located. TLCakes also opened its Brentwood Downtown location along First Street near the Delta Theater and MJ's Downtown Café. These shops have some great stuff and services to offer, so make it a point to check each of them out!
And while you're at it, here are a couple other great reasons to shop Brentwood Downtown - Stories Bookshop and The Gallery on Second.
Stories Bookshop is a family-owned bookshop where you can buy, sell, or trade your books. They sell sometimes new, mostly used books as well as book accessories and greeting cards. We spoke with Rochelle Olmos, and were inspired by the mission of Stories Bookshop. In her words, "Our goal is to ignite the passion of books in our community and inspire the next generation of readers." Definitely an asset in our community! Stories Bookshop is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. so be sure to stop by!
The Gallery on Second, an exciting new addition to Downtown, has recently opened. It is located at 741 Second Street, across the street from the new City Hall. Be sure to visit them when you head Downtown. They are open Wednesday to Saturday, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
Other store openings in the last few months in the Brentwood area include: Diva on a Dollar and Man Cave Consignment at The City Block along Balfour Road, where Tummies to Tots and The Little Gym are also located. Panache Women's Boutique recently opened at Sunset Plaza which is located along Brentwood Boulevard. We've also seen the new Payless Shoe Source at Sand Creek Crossing and Carter's Baby Store at Slatten Ranch on Lone Tree Way in Antioch.
We were also told that Dollar General is opening soon in the former CentroMart location and that a new store is coming to the old Smart and Final location in Lone Tree. We are looking forward to finding out what it is - and if anyone finds out before we do, share it with us on our Facebook Page!
The Downtown Brentwood makeover is nearing completion. The streets are all paved, lined, and done. The gateway archway and the new fountain have been installed along Oak Street. The new Civic Center is done and now houses the City Hall and the Community Center. The City Park is also on its final finishing touches and is scheduled to be re-launched in May 2012, just in time for the return of The Starry Nights Summer Concerts, a series of Friday Night Family Fun and Entertainment that starts on June 15, 2012.
Aside from having some of our nicest boutique stores and restaurants, Downtown also hosts the Brentwood Farmers' Market on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The Farmers' Market runs this year from March 31 to November 17, 2012 and it is located on First Street between Chestnut and Oak Streets. More information on the Brentwood Farmers' Market can be found here.

One of the biggest firsts in Brentwood last year was the opening of the IMAX at Rave Cinemas at the Streets of Brentwood. Rave Brentwood 14 + IMAX features 14 screens, 6 of which are 3D capable, and Contra Costa County's only IMAX screen (also 3D capable). It's great to not have to go to Dublin or farther to watch an IMAX movie - we have one right in town!
Aside from the new restaurants that opened in the last several months - The Wishing Crab, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, Mel's Diner, there will be more shops and restaurants coming up this year. We can't wait!
The Streets of Brentwood management is always busy enticing and negotiating with other great retailers to come to the Streets, so stay tuned!
We will be sharing updates on new shops and restaurants around town on a regular basis. If you are a restaurant or shop owner and want to be included in our next update, please make sure to let us know about it!
Did we miss a newly opened or a soon-to-open restaurant or retail store? Please let us know so we can update and share with our readers!
