Summer 2010 in Brentwood and Vicinity
We've spent many summers in Brentwood now, but this is our first one as a family with a kid in elementary school, so it is in a way, precious. How to make the short (for kids) and long (for parents) weeks of summer break special?
Brentwood is a family-oriented community, so there isn't a shortage of fun and worthwhile stuff to do around town. Here's our list...
Catch up on family movies.
The Rave Theater at the Streets of Brentwood is again offering their free family movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Here's the list of movies:
June 8 and 9: Alvin and the Chipmunks
June 15 and 16: Ice Age 3
June 22 and 23: Astro Boy
June 29 and 30: Planet 51
July 6 and 7: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs
July 13 and 14: Monsters vs. Aliens
July 20 and 21: Hotel for Dogs
July 27 and 28: Shorts
For new release movies, you can go and pay the usual fee during regular hours or you can also try the Delta Theater in downtown Brentwood. It's cheaper and you can use the extra dollars to buy some Scrumdillyumptious yogurt next door. Yes, they are allowed in the theater, which makes it a double treat for the kids.
Another place to catch free movies (in a wonderful outdoor setting!) this summer is at the Hannah Nicole Vineyards. Check out their event schedule here.
Spend some time in the pool
We do not have a pool, so off to the Brentwood Family Aquatic Complex we go. The complex is now open for public recreation swim in the afternoons for the 2010 season. Cost is $4/person but you can also buy multi-entry or family season passes. They also have Friday Family Fun Nights on June 25 and July 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. that is worth checking out. Make sure you call 925-516-5430 for detailed recorded information on hours, prices, and other events. Whenever possible, you should also try to confirm with a live person before you head out with your troop to make sure your information is current.
Nearby Antioch Water Park located at 4701 Lone Tree Way opened for the season on May 29. The Contra Loma Regional Park's swim lagoon opened on weekends starting May 1, and daily from June 14 to September 6. It is located at 1200 Frederickson Lane in Antioch and is part of a beautiful 780-acres regional park.
Cherry-picking season is still here.
The Cherry-picking season is still upon us, and there are also apricots, strawberries, peaches, and other fruits. Check out our cherry-picking page, or go to the Harvest Time website for information on farms, products, and hours.
Brentwood Cornfest 2010 on July 9-11
It's all systems go for the 18th annual Brentwood Corn Festival. Check out our Brentwood Cornfest page, which we'll try to update as we get more information.
