Brentwood Named a Playful City USA Once Again!

By Barbie Gary

We did it again!

For the fourth consecutive year, Brentwood has been named a Playful City USA! Only 150 cities throughout the United States have been designated by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to saving play, as Playful Cities in 2011. Each community selected demonstrated creative commitments to the cause of play. Brentwood was selected for a variety of reasons, including that fact that it offers the community its Wellness Policy, a community-wide aspirational goal which promotes physical activity and education as the benefits of living

a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, with 58 parks within nearly 12 square miles, there are plenty of great parks to visit. Some of these parks were featured in the Playport to Fun program this summer, including Blue Goose Park, where water features provide a free and fun way for kids to cool off during the summer and the dog park at King Park. Residents were encouraged to visit a local park each week during the summer and try out unique and family-friendly games, recipes and activities. Brentwood will celebrate their playful status by hosting the fourth annual Play Day at Veteran's Park on September 24th from 2-4 p.m. Residents of all ages are invited to come out to play old fashioned games, participate in a scavenger hunt and a park improvement project.
