Relay For Life began in 1985 in Washington. Dr. Gordy Klatt, walked for 24 hours and raised $27,000. Since then, the event is held annually in more than 4,800 communities and 18 countries outside of the United States.

Relay For Life is an overnight gathering of individuals and teams camping out and taking turns walking around the track to raise funds to fight cancer. The overnight walk is meant to reflect a cancer patient’s journey through the disease – ending with a new sense of hope as the sun rises in the morning. Teams are formed from families, churches, organizations, schools, businesses, health care professionals, and more!

Relay For Life starts with a Survivors Lap – a inspirational time when survivors and their caregivers are invited to circle the track together and help celebrate the victories they’ve achieved over cancer.

The Luminaria Ceremony, where glowsticks are placed inside hundreds of bags filled with sand, inscribed with the names of loved ones, and then line the track, is an inspiring ceremony to honor cancer survivors and remember friends and family members who have lost the battle.

On Sunday morning there is a Fight Back ceremony; a personal commitment is made to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer.

Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.

Relay For Life has a monthly meeting on the Third (3rd) Tuesday from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Shadow Lakes Golf Club, 401 W. Country Club Dr., Brentwood.
